For my next project, I intend to determine the average amount of fluff that can be extracted from one housecat.
My current working theory is that each pound of cat generates approximately 68 million cubic inches of cat fluff.

Then add in the big dog, and I always, always have hair skittering about the house, even if I've just brushed everyone and vacuumed.
Good luck on your experiment. What would be really cool is if you could somehow animate the cat hair to BE another cat...

That would be both cool and D: at the same time - because then the new cat would shed, and then that fluffball would have to be animated to a third cat...and then that cat would shed to create a fourth kitty...and then that kitty...
