Bah. Bah. Baaaaaaah (Snowflake Challenge Day 1)

I am a sheep! Also I'm trying to be better about updating in general, and this sort of thing lets me update without actually, um, talking about myself. ^-^; Yay?

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

1. Harmonic Progression (Megatron/Orion Pax, M/NC-17)

An AU set in Bayverse, where Megatron and Optimus were accidental sparktwins separated just after creation. Sentinel Prime chose Megatron as his successor, while Optimus was altered in form and function and sent to the Iaconian docks. This is a fairly short fic that focuses only on the circumstances of their reunion, but I loved building this world, and I like to think that in this universe, Megatron and Optimus held each other so very dear that their differences in philosophy and experience created a lasting balance rather than a rift.

At the moment, this is my favorite of all backstories for Megatron and Optimus...but I'm working on something new. :3

2. Voices Carry (Cliffjumper/Mirage, eventual M/NC-17, G1)

A romance novel--or rather, the story of a love that isn't expected, or easy, or even really welcome. There's only one part posted, because I had three, and when my harddrive crashed, I lost everything but the beginning. I was just heartsick and furious at myself then, and while I scrawled down everything I could remember, I just couldn't continue. I still want to pick it up again, though, because I love the way these two characters bounce off of each other. Cliffjumper and Mirage have more canonical interactions in the G1 series than a lot of fanon pairings do, and I become a flaily bouncing thing whenever I stumble across fanwork of the two of them together.

I'm reccing it here because I'm honestly proud of the writing I did for the piece (that was part of why losing so much of it was such an awful blow). Often I feel like a one-trick pony or a hack, but I never quite had that feeling while writing this.

3. Reunion (Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan SLASH, Star Wars, post-RotS)

Jedi ghost!sex FTW? This is the one that no one has read, mostly because it's quite old (2005) and I never really knew where to post it, even at the time. It takes place in the immediate aftermath of Episode III, and it really has no plot to speak of--just some very metaphysical pr0nz. Qui-Gon Jinn was the only redeeming factor I could find in the prequel trilogy, and I was feeling particularly sorry for Obi-Wan. This piece was the result. It's definitely rough compared to my recent work; I would write it much differently now. Even so, I think it still has a certain amateurish charm. All my interest in the Force and its influence on the bonds of the Jedi definitely made a solid foundation for my fascination with Cybertronian sparks and sparkbonds.

4. Belonging (Megatron/Optimus Prime, M/NC-17, TF: A)

I think I have to include this, because even people who don't remember my name sometimes remember this fic, heh. I'm proud of it, although its popularity shocked me at the time (and still does, honestly). It's my most epic fic, for sure, and TF: Animated Megatron is still one of my very favorite characters to write. He is essentially a giant, predatory cat--just as lethal, just as lovely, and just as moody when he doesn't get exactly what he wants exactly when he wants it. ♥

I really like Harmonic Progression. It's not what I would do with the characters, but I love it. Sometimes people think when I say that that I mean some kind of insult, like "well, if you have to write them THAT WAY I guess it's good, here's a consolation prize." But that's not what I mean. I mean that it surprises me in a good way when I see a version of a character that isn't quite what's in my head but still grabs me and makes me feel for them and understand them. And that's how I feel about that fic.

Wow. I'm deeply honored. I've had a strange past couple of weeks, and this really made me feel better. Thank you so much!

I know not many people see Megatron and Starscream the way I do. Once I realized that and saw that some people are downright uncomfortable with those versions of them, I always figured that meant not many people would like those fics. Which made me sad, because I love writing those fics and work hard to keep them tense, engaging, and worthy of two characters I treasure. So it really means a lot to me to hear you say that you like them so much despite not seeing the characters similarly in your own mind.

Also, I don't know if you'll find this weird or awkward, but it's awesome to talk to you. When I discovered your work a few years ago I thought you'd be amazingly interesting to talk to, but sadly you didn't seem very active around where I was. It's really cool to see you around and to discover that you enjoy and appreciate my writing.

:-)

Wow, I'm really excited to hear that you admire my work. It doesn't get the floods of comments a lot of other stuff gets, at least not on LJ or DW, so I have a hard time gauging whether many people like it or whether it's well-liked but only by a small niche.

I'm not sure why that is, and sadly the times I've tried to ask, well, I got some people thinking (partially rightly, partially not) that I was just begging for attention. :-/ So I'm really glad to hear that you enjoy it and can see the care I put into it. That means a lot to me.

Do you have AIM by the way? If it's not a preferred method of communication, no problem, but I like very much talking to people in real time. I'm vicious beastie over there if you'd like to drop me a line.
